Yetunde Dania

This October, in honour of Black History Month, we’re celebrating 31 Black professionals in property. Today we’re celebrating Yetunde Dania.

Yetunde, a remarkable property litigator who represents registered providers of social housing and private landlords in tenant disputes. She qualified as a solicitor in 1996, became a partner in 2005, and joined Trowers & Hamlins in 2011 to help open their Birmingham office. Since January 2020, she has held the role of Head of Office.

With almost 25 years' experience, Yetunde is skilled in devising cost-efficient strategies for housing law cases, dealing with injunctions, and possession matters related to serious breaches of tenancy in the social housing sector. In the private rented sector, Yetunde provides guidance on the ever-evolving landlord and tenant legislation and represents landlords in any resulting litigation, whether initiated by the landlord, tenant, or local authority.

She was on the Advisory Board of the government-backed Care Leavers Covenant and, in November 2021, she became the independent chair of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Race Equalities Taskforce, working to tackle and reduce race inequalities across the region, a role she heled until Jun 2023. At Trowers & Hamlins, Yetunde is a LGBTQ+ Ally and chair of their Race Action Plan Committee which is focused on devising and implementing strategies across the firm to attract, retain and develop Black talent.

Yetunde is a luminary in the Black community, particularly in the West Midlands, where she creates opportunities for Black entrepreneurs. She was one of the instrumental people involved in the creation of the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, Black Business Collective, and for two consecutive years she has served on the advisory board for the Birmingham Black Business Show. She is also dedicated to mentoring young people, both in an outside of the legal profession, and she is committed to being as visible as possible so that Black people, in particular, can see that is possible to attain senior legal positions. Yetunde also gives generously of her time to do all of this and be a great ambassador for the region.

Yetunde's story is a testament to her success despite being from an under-represented background. She proves that one’s characteristics do not define them and that greatness is achievable no matter where you come from.
