Kofi Anku

At PeopleDem property we believe in celebrating our community by spotlighting black excellence in property. Today we are celebrating Kofi Anku.

Kofi is a Ghana-based real estate developer and entrepreneur with nearly three decades of experience in the industry. He is a shareholder and board member of Ayi Mensah Park, a 200-unit townhouse community situated at the foot of the Aburi Hills near Accra. This development is recognized as Ghana’s first neighborhood-scale townhouse project, designed to optimize land use and reduce per-unit costs through shared infrastructure and amenities.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to Ghanaian parents, Kofi lived in the U.S. until his twenties before relocating to Ghana to run his family’s real estate business. His parents were early investors in American real estate, particularly in a small town called Marco Island in South Florida. Witnessing his parents grow their portfolio sparked Kofi’s early appreciation for the power of real estate. In the mid-1990s, his visionary father began selling some of their Florida assets to acquire land just outside of Accra. After moving to Ghana and taking over the family business, Kofi partnered with Cheryl Mills of BlackIvy Group to develop projects like Ayi Mensah Park.

In addition to Ayi Mensah Park, Kofi is also known for his work on Pokuase Heights, located in the fast-growing town of Pokuase, just 4km from West Africa’s largest interchange. This $100 million piece of national infrastructure has already contributed to rising property values in the area. The project is also conveniently located near Achimota Mall and Kotoka International Airport. Pokuase Heights was designed to provide high-quality, affordable homes using modern methods of construction that minimize waste, shorten build times, and reduce costs for buyers. The project incorporates green features, including an independent community water supply, backup solar power, and fully insulated walls and ceilings to enhance comfort and lower cooling expenses. Each home is equipped with a biodigester system that mimics natural processes found on the forest floor.

Kofi’s impact extends beyond real estate. He has also contributed to critical healthcare infrastructure, including the construction of the Mother and Baby Unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and a paediatric intensive care unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Additionally, he serves as Executive Director of Premium Vegetables Ltd., a commercial greenhouse operation in Aburi that supplies fresh produce to supermarkets and restaurants in Accra.

It is an honour to share Kofi’s story. He is a passionate advocate for Ghana, actively investing in infrastructure and housing, while showcasing the country’s and the continent’s opportunities to the diaspora. We look forward to following his journey as it continues to unfold.
