Errol Lawson

This October, in honour of Black History Month, we’re celebrating 31 Black professionals in property. Today we’re celebrating Errol Lawson.

Errol is a leadership coach, speaker, author, and the founder of the BTFA (Building The Future - Construction and Built Environment Sector Awards 2025), which celebrates and recognises young talent in the construction and built environment sectors. His focus is on inspiring the next generation of leaders and providing them with opportunities to thrive in their careers.

One of the key people who helped Errol on his journey was his mentor, John Holcroft, who provided critical guidance at a turning point in his life. John's belief in him gave Errol the confidence to push through challenges and aim higher. A book that has had a significant impact on Errol is "The Compound Effect" by Darren Hardy. It's all about the power of small, consistent actions over time, which has been a guiding principle in both his personal and professional life.

Errol was inspired to enter the property industry because he saw the potential to create a lasting impact, whether through physical structures or the careers of young people in this field. He wanted to be part of an industry that shapes the future, and that's what property and construction do.

Errol's vision for the BTFA includes expanding it across the UK and Northern Ireland and eventually into other sectors beyond construction to inspire even more young professionals. The awards are dedicated to recognising and celebrating the individuals and organisations shaping the future of the construction and built environment sectors. Their mission is to spotlight innovation, excellence, and leadership within the industry while inspiring the next generation of professionals to rise to their full potential.

Every year, the awards bring together leaders, innovators, and rising stars for an unforgettable evening of recognition, celebration, and networking. With support from esteemed sponsors, they highlight the achievements of those making a lasting impact on the world around us. Whether you're an industry professional, a passionate newcomer, or a supporter of the construction sector's progress, the BTFAs is your opportunity to connect, celebrate, and help drive the future of the industry.

Errol is incredibly inspiring, not just in property. He also founded Emerge Leadership UK CIC, a social enterprise providing training, coaching, and mentoring for organisational leaders and young people. He has also flourished in education, having attained a Master's degree in Enterprise Management and Level 7 in Strategic Leadership.

We are honoured to write about Errol because he constantly shines a light on others through his work with the BTFA and his dedication to elevating young people to realise their greatness through his social enterprise. We look forward to seeing the expansion of the Building the Future Awards and where Errol's journey takes him.
