Tayo Oguntonade

At PeopleDem property we believe in celebrating our community by spotlighting black excellence in property. Today we are celebrating Tayo Oguntonade.

Tayo is an award-winning TV presenter, content creator, and financial educator with a passion for making property and finance accessible to all. As a sought-after podcast host, event emcee, and corporate speaker, he delivers financial wellness education to corporations, parents, and students alike. With over a decade of experience in real estate investing and education alongside a 10-year career in investment banking Tayo’s expertise is grounded in both professional knowledge and hands-on experience. In 2019, he co-founded BrickzWithTipz with his wife, Antoinette.

Tayo’s journey began at university, where his interest in finance first took shape. After studying economics at Plymouth University, he became determined to find effective ways to invest as he started his career. Early on, he developed a strong interest in property investment but quickly recognised the barriers many people face when trying to get onto the property ladder. These included widespread myths, scaremongering, limited access to reliable information, and a focus on problems within the UK property market without offering practical solutions.

Motivated to bridge this gap, Tayo pursued qualification as a mortgage broker through the Chartered Insurance Institute. This step brought him closer to the inner workings of the property market and enabled him to purchase his first property at just 22 years old. Taking a strategic, finance-driven approach, he rented out two rooms in his three-bedroom home to help cover the mortgage. By staying informed on market trends and learning through experience, he steadily built his success as a property investor.

Since then, Tayo has dedicated his time to helping others from first-time buyers to experienced investors achieve their property goals. His vibrant, engaging, and charismatic style offers a refreshing contrast to the traditionally rigid tone of the sector.

Alongside his property investments, Tayo and his wife founded the property platform BrickzWithTipz, where his advice and insights have reached over 100,000 people and generated millions of impressions. The platform has become a trusted resource for accessible, actionable property and financial guidance.

Tayo has also become a familiar face on television. He presents The Great House Giveaway on Channel 4 and regularly appears on programmes such as Rip Off Britain, Morning Live, Watchdog, and Steph’s Packed Lunch. The Great House Giveaway achieved major success in 2022, winning Best Daytime Programme at the BAFTAs, RTS Awards, and Broadcast Awards. Tayo himself was also nominated for Best Debut Presenter at the Edinburgh Television Festival.

In addition to his media work, Tayo continues to share his expertise as a mortgage broker and property advisor, supporting a wide range of clients. Through his YouTube channel, he provides practical guidance on topics such as buying property at auction, understanding stamp duty, and leveraging the power of remortgaging. He has also contributed as a property expert for ITV News, further extending his impact.

Throughout his career, Tayo has partnered with leading brands including CompareTheMarket, NatWest, Barclays, Berkeley Group, and Dell, using these collaborations to expand the reach of his mission.

Despite his growing media profile, Tayo remains committed to advising clients directly and championing greater transparency, accessibility, and inclusivity within the property sector. His combination of professional expertise, personal experience, and authentic communication has earned him credibility across both financial and broadcast industries.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tayo is deeply committed to giving back. He led Make Your Move, a social-first educational series sponsored by Skipton Building Society, helping first-time buyers overcome financial fears with confidence. The series attracted over 3 million views and received a Broadcast Digital Award nomination for its innovative approach.

He also supports 2020 Change, a youth empowerment organisation dedicated to helping young people unlock their potential and develop the mindset needed to thrive in a changing world.

Through his podcast, speaking engagements, television work, and educational initiatives, Tayo continues to inspire, inform, and empower audiences to take control of their financial futures. In a previous interview, he shared advice on helping young people achieve homeownership early:

“House prices have changed quite a bit since I bought my first home, but the principles remain the same: save, save, save. Many people underestimate how much they can save while living with their parents and only realise later when they move into rented accommodation. It’s also important to stay open-minded about location and property type your first home won’t be perfect, and compromise is often part of the journey.”

It is an honour to share Tayo’s journey. His story is a powerful testament to the impact of expertise, determination, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of individuals and families navigating the world of property and finance.
