Jessica Campbell
At PeopleDem property we believe in celebrating our community by spotlighting black excellence in property. Today we are celebrating Jessica Campbell.
Jessica is the CEO of Prosperity Housing Group, a clinically led 24-hour supported living service based in Birmingham. Prosperity Housing Group supports adults who have complex mental health needs, autism and learning disabilities. They specialise in recovery, with the aims of preventing people from being admitted to hospital, reducing the risk of deterioration, and giving people the help they need to remain independent in the community. They offer skilled support to enable people to live in their own homes and achieve their optimum state of health and well-being.
As CEO, Jessica is motivated by the lasting difference she makes in people’s lives. She is driven by a clear purpose, which is to improve the standard of mental healthcare across the UK, so that individuals with complex mental health needs can live fulfilling lives on their own terms. As such, what Prosperity Housing Group do goes beyond simply providing support. They create a foundation where people can feel safer, more understood, and more empowered to lead fulfilling lives. With the right care, staff, and support, people can thrive and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Jessica’s story began with the love and support of her family. She notes, “My parents have been incredibly supportive throughout my journey, and even when I didn’t fully appreciate it at the time, I can see now how much their support has shaped who I am today.” As a child, she was enrolled in extracurricular maths tutoring. Though initially resistant, in time Jessica came to realise how much this extra study set her up for success in later life. She became a self-proclaimed ‘whizz with numbers’ which has empowered Jessica to play a key role in the financial performance of Prosperity Housing Group, their franchisees, and their continued growth. A vital foundation of financial literacy is essential in an understanding of business. This approach to learning also taught Jessica a valuable lesson about seeing the bigger picture, so that she can keep progressing, protect the mission and make space for fun and the fulfilment of her own dreams.
Jessica’s dream began when she was working as a healthcare assistant and assistant psychologist. She was drawn into property after witnessing the impact of “the revolving door” of care, with service users being admitted to hospital, then discharged, only to be pulled back in again within months. With this cycle being destabilising, frightening and deeply disruptive to their lives. Imagine building a life, having a career, friendships, family, and a social life only for it to be uprooted again and again, with no real sense of stability or certainty. Every admission interrupts progress, disrupts routine, and makes it harder to maintain a fulfilling life. Jessica wanted to be part of something that worked and supported people in the community that challenged these issues. So, she founded Prosperity Housing Group, to prove care that helps people stay rooted in their lives, rather than being repeatedly removed from them.
Jessica’s superpower is her grit paired with an unwavering belief in her own ability to learn, pivot where necessary and deliver what is needed at the time to get the job done. Her life mantra is: “Whatever I don’t know today, I will know by tomorrow.” That belief has shaped her career and propelled Jessica forward, particularly in areas where she started with no experience. When Jessica first entered this space, she had no knowledge of tendering or local authority contracts, she hadn’t even heard of the process before. Instead of being held back by what she didn’t know, Jessica committed to mastering it. Because of that mindset, she didn’t just learn the system, she applied and won every tender for Prosperity Housing Group that she went for. From there, her growth didn’t stop at her own success. Jessica became a consultant, supporting other service providers to win tenders in their local areas. And now, Jessica leads the bid writing team for their franchisees ensuring they approach every opportunity with strategy and the confidence to win. She never accepts defeat.
Jessica is proud of the impact her team has on people’s lives every single day. Not only does the team support people to lead safe and fulfilling lives, but they also save lives. She recalls a service user who hadn’t left her house in years and had no close relationship with her family. After a year with Prosperity Housing Group, this same person was doing something she never thought she could… she started going to the hairdresser every Friday, independently! The support from staff also helped her build stronger, healthier relationships with her children and family. These moments are achievements Jessica is genuinely proud of, because they show what excellent support really looks like.
Jessica doesn’t want to stop here she wants to further her impact with the goal to grow their franchise network from 25 to 50 franchisees. That growth isn’t just about expanding a business, it’s a strategic step towards her mission of raising the standard of mental healthcare across the UK. It directly supports her business partner Petra's mission too, by creating opportunities to build wealth and using supported living as a vehicle to create more millionaires, through the system they’ve built and the standards they maintain. If you are serious about becoming a franchisee we recommend getting in touch with Jessica. To paraphrase Jessica:
“Setting up your CQC registered supported living business can be a complex and daunting task. As a Franchisee of Prosperity Housing Group, you can achieve your dream of becoming a supported living business owner. We have created a replicable business process that is scalable. The purpose of starting your Supporting Living business is to help you serve your community, avoid costly trial and error, implement the newest tactics and find what works best within the care industry. Regardless of where you are in the UK or what local authority you would like to work with, launching your business should be a gratifying and seamless experience, allowing you to have a business that you are personally aligned with and is in tune with your authentic self. Myself and Petra Foster have a wealth of expert knowledge and experience in supported living as well as owning a housing management company and investing in properties. There is a high demand for community-centred businesses which genuinely help people to achieve their personal goals of health and wellbeing.”
We also asked Jessica to share a book that she found valuable. She recommended ‘Traction: Get a Grip on Your Business’ by Gino Wickman. She would encourage every business owner to read as she found it to be the most valuable book business she has ever read. Outside of work, Jessica has stated that genuinely believes life should be celebrated with soca, afro house, laughter, and the people you love most. Jessica’s family and friends mean everything to her and she believes making memories and enjoying life with them is what matters most. She also shared “I also love that people who don't even know me well, know me for my Tequila!”
