Corneil E. and Joshua Ebanks
This October, in honour of Black History Month, we’re celebrating 31 Black professionals in property. Today we’re celebrating Corneil E. and Joshua Ebanks.
Corneil and Joshua are the dynamic directors of Normette Homes, collaborating with Michael Asare and Ivan Kayima to form a robust team. Normette Homes is a property development company focused on converting commercial buildings into residential spaces, boasting a project pipeline exceeding £1 million. Their growth strategy includes acquiring two additional commercial properties in the next two quarters, developing at least 12 new units.
Advocates of collaboration, they live by the saying, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." They've participated in courses, masterminds, and mentorship programs, showing their dedication to self-development. They recommend the books "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman and "Contagious" by Jonah Berger.
Corneil’s property journey began at university. Facing issues with property conditions, he attempted to buy a property with his sisters to house himself and friends. This led him to buy his first home at 24, ending his family’s cycle of social housing. At Normette Homes, Corneil drives the team to challenge the status quo in all aspects of the business. Looking ahead, he plans to get married and start a family.
Josh’s journey began in Jamaica, watching his grandad build his own home. He started plastering with his uncle during his teenage years and became curious about property as a wealth generator. After spending a few years in temporary accommodation with his mum, Josh bought his mum’s council house in his early 20s and later sold it to buy her a mortgage-free home in Kent. At Normette Homes, Josh brings the team together, defining the mission and vision for the business. In the future, he plans to balance his personal life between the UK and a warmer country.
Their stories prove that greatness can be achieved no matter where you come from and that collaboration is key to success. We are excited to see how Normette Homes evolves and what Corneil and Joshua will accomplish in the future.
