Alfred Bartlett

This October, in honour of Black History Month, we’re celebrating 31 Black professionals in property. Today we’re celebrating Alfred Bartlett.

Alfred owns Ogle Property, bringing over three decades of experience in the commercial property sector. He has held senior leadership positions in Chartered Surveyors and Commercial Property Consultancies including partner at Donaldsons, owner and founder of Bartlett Property and equity partner at Rapleys. His in depth knowledge of the development and ability to consistently added value and generated significant returns for projects has meant that he has also been invited to take executive roles in operational and development companies including Property Director for In’n’Out, the drive thru car servicing company, Non Executive Director of aAIM the celebrity backed investment house and fund manager and director and owner of Development companies BML & LED UK Ltd developers of drive thru restaurants, roadside and retail property.

His career began in 1988 under the mentorship of Peter Tobin at Strettons in London. Under Tobin’s guidance, Alfred gained hands-on experience in areas like Landlord & Tenant, Valuations, investment, development consultancy, and building surveying. This early mentorship shaped his technical skills, confidence, and professional demeanour.

Alfred has always worked in property despite this he initially considered a career in law. His perception in the early '80s was that the legal profession wouldn’t be particularly welcoming to black boys. He has always been fascinated by how major buildings came to be, so the combination of the two meant that it was the law of property that initially interested him. In the early part of his career, Alfred specialized in Valuations, Business Tenancies, and Landlord & Tenant law. He has even appeared in court as an Expert Valuation Witness. His role as a partner and national head of Roadside for Donaldsons in 1999 marked a shift towards development consultancy and agency.

His progression in the property sector eventually led to the founding of Ogle Property, which focuses on developing real estate to create places where people want to live, work and dwell. Ogle Property engages in joint ventures, acquisitions, disposals, and development consultancy, partnering with developers and occupiers to bring innovative schemes to life. Their track record showcases their ability to deliver high-profile and accessible projects that positively impact the surrounding neighbourhoods. Alfred is currently progressing mixed retail and residential development and roadside schemes, so we look forward to more news on this front as these schemes come forward

Alfred has ambitions to develop properties in the Caribbean, aiming to boost community wealth and create self-sustaining destinations. His goal is to leverage his experience to inspire and mentor others, particularly young black professionals in the property sector.
